THE LEGEND OF POMPEII BREWING COMPANY Pompeii was a popular resort town south of Rome at the foot of Mount Vesuvius over 2,000 years ago. Suddenly and without warning, on an otherwise quiet and peaceful day in the year 70 AD, a massive volcano sent walls of molten lava cascading down on the unsuspecting town. So complete was the entombment that any and all thought of rebuilding was immediately forgotten, and the grim excavations continue to this day. We now know that the lava is 65 feet deep in some places, but perhaps the most fantastic discovery is the recent uncovering of the famous Pompeii Brewing Company frequently mentioned in the writings of Cicero, the Roman statesman-philosopher who was a frequent and happy guest. Recently recovered stone inscriptions contain the long-lost recipes! Smuggled out of Italy at great personnel risk by a band of brave adventurers (your hosts), these recipes are presented to drown your sorrow over the unfortunate thousands who were living at the foot of their mountain on that fateful day many years ago. Celebrate live and this discovery of fine brewing tradition while you can, for I see other mountains nearby... Michelangelo Lonsbirra |
